Galaxy Note vs Galaxy S3 [Comparison]

1. Design and Display

Both of these handsets look like distant relatives, but the Galaxy Note is visibly larger than the Galaxy S3 and this is mainly because of the fact that it has a 5.3 inch display and there is no other smartphone that is as large as this handset. It in fact resembles a mini tablet and few techies started calling it as Mobilet. On the other hand, the Galaxy S3 has a 4.8 inch display and is even slimmer than the Galaxy Note.

  • Galaxy Note – 146.9 x 83 x 9.7mm and it weights around 180 gms.
  • Galaxy S3 – 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm and weighs around 133 gms.

  • Galaxy Note – Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 800 X 1280 pixels and 5.3inch screen with pixel density of 285 ppi.
  • Galaxy S3 – Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 720 X 1280 pixels and 4.8inch screen with pixel density of 306 ppi.

This clearly states that, the display quality of Galaxy S3 is way ahead of Galaxy Note.

2. Processor and Memory

The Galaxy Note is powered with Dual Core 1.4 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor; while the Galaxy S3 is powered by Quad core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor. Though the clock speed of both devices is 1.4GHz, but Galaxy S3 is loaded with Quad-Core processors makes it fastest device. Galaxy Note is powered with Exynos Chipset, while Galaxy S3 is powered with Exynos 4212 Quad chipset, which is specially designed for supporting Quad processors.

Galaxy Note is available in 2 variants i.e. 16/32GB with extendable memory of 32GB via microSD, while Galaxy S3 is available in 3 variants i.e., 16/32/64GB with extendable memory of up to 64GB. Both these devices are loaded with 1 GB RAM.  I’ve read a question about the memory extensions for SmartPhones using external hard drive, which sounds silly, but according to the experts, it is going to be possible in few years. In both aspects, it is clearly Galaxy S3 holds upper hand.

3. Operating System

Samsung Galaxy Note is based on Android v2.3 Gingerbread, while Galaxy S3 is based on ICS4 which is the latest version of Android OS. The Ice Cream Sandwich version of the Android has been launched but the handsets have not received this update yet and Galaxy Note is one of the devices that got the place in the list of devices to receive ICS update.

Coming to the user interface the handsets have the same one, that is, the TouchWiz 4.0 user interface, which is the latest from the Samsung staple.

4. Camera and Battery

The Galaxy Note and Galaxy S3 devices are loaded with same 8MP rear facing shooter that is supported by an LED Flash and thus taking photos in low light conditions is not an issue at all. It also has a secondary front facing camera that is a 2MP one and it is perfect for video calling.

It is quite obvious that the battery of the Samsung Galaxy Note is more powerful than that of the S3. It has a 2500 mAh battery that supports 9 hours of talk time in 3G mode with a single charge. The Galaxy S2 is equipped with a 2100 mAh battery that provides the same support in the 3G mode.

5. Price

The Galaxy Note is slightly cheaper when compared to the Galaxy S3. The Galaxy S3 is available for Rs.43,000 in the market, but you will have to pay somewhere around Rs.36,000 for the Galaxy Note. You can also check cheapest deals for Samsung Galaxy SIII when buying one.

Thus, in the comparison between Samsung Galaxy Note vs Samsung Galaxy S3, the Galaxy S3 is a better option even though it is more expensive than the latter as it has many unique features that are not present in the Galaxy Note. So, if you ask me to suggestion to pick one device among these two, I’ll go with Galaxy S3 without any hesitation.
