Google Nexus 7 vs Microsoft Surface vs iPad 3: Comparison

Along with Apple and Microsoft, Google is now totally in the tablet market with it’s all new Google Nexus 7 manufactured by Asus. Talking from a newbie perspective, Google Nexus 7 is the tablet you all have been waiting for, trust me. A tablet which has been designed to bring visual experience to life and which is the first device to run on the latest Android 4.1 Jellybean is not less than any other tablets. Microsoft with it’s new Surface tablet in the market will face serious competition from Nexus 7 and if you’ll ask me about the iPad 3, let’s check the battle!

Screen Display : The all new Google Nexus 7 will be featuring a 7-inch 1280×800 HD display which is smaller as compared to Microsoft’s Surface and iPad 3. Microsoft Surface will have a 10.6-inch screen with 16:9 aspect ratio. Talking about the iPad 3, it’s 9.7-inches long with 2048×1536 resolution and not to forget the Retina display.

So we can clearly see that Google Nexus 7 is significantly smaller than the Surface and iPad 3 but it’s way more easier to handle and portable than the other two.  But not all people want a Retina display on their device and a larger screen, they probably will be satisfied with an adjustable screen size if they are getting such a good gadget at a good price.

[Note]Winner : iPad 3 with a Retina Display.[/Note]

Processor : Google Nexus 7 will ship with a 1.3GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and a GE-Force 12-core GPU while the Microsoft Surface will have an ARM based model. We don’t know which processor it will have, but it will be most likely the Tegra 3. The iPad 3 comes with 1GHz dual core cortex A9 on A5 chipset which has quad core graphics which makes it the most powerful processor.

So a 1.3GHz quad core processor backed up with 1 GB of RAM running on Android Jelly Bean, sounds impressive huh ? While the iPad 3 runs on the best processor but it costs very high and who in the world would not adjust with such a great new OS and without an A5 chip ? You get all these hardware for such a good price.

[Note]Winner : There is a tie between Surface RT (not confirmed) and Nexus 7, because both offer the quad-core Tegra 3[/Note]

Operating System : One of the major factors which comes into play is the OS of the tablets when comparing these 3. The all new Google Nexus 7 runs on the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which comes with some of the most amazing features like Google Now and Offline Voice Recognition while the Microsoft Surface runs on Windows 8 and the iPad 3 runs on Apple’s  iOS5.

Comparing the features of the new Android Jelly Bean, Windows 8 and the iOS6, Android surely wins when it comes to performance, features and UI. While iOS’s interface hasn’t changed since 5 years, Android and Windows Phone offer beautiful interfaces. Android is feature rich and deeply customizable, and offers even more than what iOS6 does. Windows Phone is a little behind Android, but almost head-to-head with iOS6. Android Jelly Bean offers Google Now, it’s like Siri but even more intelligent and faster. It also offers enhanced notifications mind-blowing performance improvements. You can read more about the features here.

[Note]Winner : Google Nexus 7 with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the clear winner.[/Note]

Storage : This is a significant factor when comparing these 3 tablets, the Google Nexus 7 is available in just 8Gb/16Gb internal storage versions and there’s no SD slot for expandable memory. The Microsoft Surface comes in 32 Gb/64Gb models while the iPad 3 comes in 16GB/32GB or 64GB models.

Well, here it’s an easy win for Apple’s iPad 3 again and also Microsoft Surface tablet, but you should also mark that you will get a 16 GB Nexus 7 at the price half of that of the new iPad 3’s 16 GB model and unfortunately Nexus 7 doesn’t cope up with the needs of a high storage capacity of a user on his tablet., but you can always opt for cloud storage which Google offers if the storage on the device is not meeting your requirements.

[Note]Winner : iPad 3 and Microsoft Surface[/Note]

Price : And finally the most important factor comes into act, the price really matters a lot when it comes to buying new gadgets worth the money. Google Nexus 7 tablet is marked at $199 for the 8GB model and $249 for the 16GB model, Microsoft Surface is priced at $599 for the RT model and $999 for the Pro model and the iPad 3 costs $599.

[Note]Winner : Without any discussion the clear winner here is the Google Nexus 7 being the most cheap tablet of all the three.[/Note]

So this was a gentle comparison between the 3 new tablets and the most competitive ones in the market at this moment. I tried my level best to give the most detailed description of all the 3 tablets based on the major factors of comparison. Feel free to share your views on this article. Which one of the three do you think is the best ? Will iPad 3 be the king of all the 3 or Microsoft Surface or the new Google Nexus 7 will turn the tables ?
